1. JPEGMAFIA - THE BENDS!
My favorite of JPEGMAFIA’s EP! releases throughout 2020, this song details the hardships Peggy faced at the time and several slick politically charged bars - in true JPEGMAFIA fashion. Funnily enough, this track references both Radiohead (through the title) and Earl (with the mention of Earl’s former stage name, Sly Tendencies). 2. Radiohead - The Bends The title track to their sophomore record, Radiohead contemplates who’s there for them when they are needed. Another ode to the negative, high-pressure side to a life of newly acquired fame, this song excellently depicts exactly what “the bends” is. 3. Earl Sweatshirt - The Bends Although this is one of my least favorite tracks instrumentally on Earl’s renowned 2018 record Some Rap Songs, simply acting as a means of passage to the following song “Azucar”, it does provide a bar here or there worthy of thought.
Lonerism - 7 Currents - 6 Winner: Lonerism Easiest decisions: Tracks 1 and 4 Hardest decisions: Tracks 3, 9, and 10 Fun fact: The claymation music video for “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” off of Lonerism was directed by Joe Pelling and Becky Sloan, creators of the YouTube series “Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.” Favorite Projects Released in 2015:
